Reading Notes (Textbook Studying)

  • Read the chapter review first
  • Then read ONLY the BOLD or ITALICIZED words.
  • Then skim certain parts and read others closely. (VARY your speed)

Essay Writing

  • Pen down first (P.O.W.E.R.) Ponder, Outline, Write, Edit, Revise
  • Graphic Organizer for your outline.
  • Topic w/ thesis statement, assertions, Supporting details, Conclusion and Clincher.

Vocabulary Use visualization

  • Use mnemonic Devices
  • Use colors
  • Do NOT study rote memorization
  • Memorize in threes or fives at a time. NO MORE
Lecture Notes
  • Write down key phrases only
  • Highlight or underline important words in color
  • Bullet information and place in categories later
  • Expand your notes within a few hours of lecture
  • Recite and REVIEW your notes

Notebook Studying

  • Put all notes in CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER
  • Place classwork in one pile, homework and handouts in another pile
  • Review for a test from quizzes
